HOLLY JOLLY CELEBRATION WITHOUT LOSING YOUR BALANCE
It’s the most wonderful—and sometimes busiest—time of the year!
December brings Christmas parties, family gatherings, Junkanoo, travel, shopping and plenty of delicious Bahamian food.
The goal isn’t to avoid the celebrations.
The goal is to enjoy them while taking care of yourself.
BH Wellness holiday survival guide
- Don’t arrive starving.
Skipping meals to “save calories” for a party can leave you overeating later.
Have a balanced meal or healthy snack beforehand.
- Build a better plate.
Enjoy your favourites, but try to include vegetables, lean protein and reasonable portions alongside those holiday treats.
- Pick your favourites.
You don’t have to say no to everything.
Choose the foods you truly enjoy and savour them.
- Stay hydrated.
Water is your friend—especially when you’re enjoying salty foods or alcoholic beverages.
Try alternating alcoholic drinks with water.
- Keep moving.
Dance. Walk. Play with the children. Join the Junkanoo rush. Take a post-meal stroll.
Movement counts!
- Protect your sleep.
Late nights can quickly add up during the holiday season.
Whenever possible, maintain a regular sleep routine and give your body time to recharge.
- Don’t forget your medications.
If you’re travelling or attending holiday events, make sure you have enough medication and take it as prescribed.
- Enjoy yourself—without the guilt.
One big meal won’t undo months of healthy habits.
And one healthy meal won’t undo an unhealthy lifestyle.
Wellness is about what you do consistently.
