World Diabetes Day | November 14
Diabetes affects millions of people around the world, including families right here in The Bahamas.
The good news? There are many things you can do to support your health and reduce your risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
Know Your Numbers
Talk with your healthcare provider about whether you should have your:
- Blood pressure checked
- Blood glucose checked
- Cholesterol checked
- Weight and waist circumference assessed
Knowing your numbers can help you and your healthcare provider identify potential concerns early.
Small Changes. Big Impact.
Try these simple swaps:
Instead of: A sugary drink
Try: Water infused with lime, cucumber or mint
Instead of: A large serving of starch
Try: A smaller portion paired with vegetables and lean protein
Instead of: Sitting for hours
Try: Getting up and moving for a few minutes every hour
Instead of: Waiting until you’re thirsty
Try: Keeping water nearby throughout the day
You don’t have to change everything at once. Start with one healthy habit and build from there.
